Dynia Architects

Stephen Dynia, FAIA founded the firm in Jackson Hole after working in the design department of Skidmore Owings & Merrill in New York. The goal for Dynia Architects was to create a studio that focused on doing modern work in a remarkable natural environment. This shift from the cosmopolitan to the rural – from designing for dense built environments to an environment dominated by nature – began a new explorative process. Rather than seeing the mountain west as a place of ‘pioneer nostalgia’, Dynia Architects continues to view it as a ‘frontier for new ideas’, making the Jackson studio a kind of laboratory where we changed the perception of modern work. For Dynia Architects each commission is an opportunity to advance this mission, to show by example the value of work that engages in deeper connections to place than merely romantic notions about the west.
